Crisis of Drink

August 26, 2009 By: bobisimo Category: All Posts, What About Bob

I’m officially as hooked as hooked can be on iced green tea.

But about a week ago, I had a glass and got a stomach ache. I wasn’t sure if it was from the tea or not but a second glass and a second stomach ache proved to me that it was the tea. So I dumped that jug down the drain and got a glass from our second pitcher and — another stomach ache.

I tell you, brothers and sisters, that I have never been quite so distraught as at that moment. I just don’t dig coffee as much as I once did (though the occasional cup still calls to me), and I don’t drink soda/pop (too much sugar or aspartame, depending). And without the caffeine, it’s headache city. Sure, I could heat up some tea each day since that didn’t seem to bother my stomach, and that’s basically what I did during my crisis, but I really like a nice, refreshing glass (or two) of iced green tea each day. Our iced tea maker was just so damned convenient.

Fortunately, Candice mentioned that the last glass she had was pretty sweet and suggested maybe it was a result of too much honey. So I tried making another pitcher with just the tiniest bit of honey in it this time and — success. No headache from my green-tea yumminess. I’m back on the bandwagon. Whew.

You may now continue on with your day.

Best way to prepare green tea?

(today’s post: 247 words)

I love green tea. OK, I don’t *love* green tea, but I love the apparent health benefits and I enjoy the taste enough to love it as a whole. I say this because I feel it’s time to come clean and admit my burgeoning addiction.

So where does this come from? I’ll say Devin.

Devin works until midnight or 1AM. During our recent NJ visit, Candice and I, and oftentimes Dom, would start the night with a Wawa run as soon as Devin got off so he could grab some herbal tea (and us some snacks). I’d been thinking about green tea (thanks to the plethora of online articles touting its health appeal) and one night, while Devin got his herbal, I grabbed a green tea.

It was great. I got a good, non-jittery caffeine buzz from it. And I had no trouble getting to bed that night.

I’ve had green tea almost every day since. Recently, I tried Lipton’s iced green tea and that’s pretty tasty, but it may not be as healthy. Maybe I’ll make my own like the site suggests.

And that leads me to a question.

Do you like green tea? If so, how do you drink it? I’ve been pouring a spoon of honey into the bottom of a cup, dropping in one tea bag, and then filling the (14oz) cup with boiling water. I leave the bag in while the cup cools for 20 minutes or so, stir it, and drink.
