Cryptic Clues

August 06, 2008 By: bobisimo Category: All Posts, Catching Up

If you’ve been following my Facebook status updates, then you know I’ve heard back at one of the positions for which I applied.

I originally e-mailed my application on 30 June - and followed-up with an online test for the position. On 30 July (Thursday), I received a note informing me that my test had been graded and that I would hear from a recruiter.

The next day (31 July - Friday), I received an e-mail and phone call requesting my schedule so that a phone interview could be set up. I responded and, on Monday, I went through a 15-minute interview with the recruiter. The questions were of the standard HR variety: what about the company appeals to me, am I willing to relocate, what are my salary expectations, etc.

At the conclusion of the interview, I was told that I would receive a phone call from the department head on 6 August (Wednesday - today). That call lasted a half-hour, and was basically an extended version of the original online test. There were a lot of hypothetical situations raised and I was asked how I would resolve them. We also spoke about the company and the situation I’d be taking on, as well as my test results (”solid” and “the reason we’re talking”).

The interview seemed to go OK (better as it progressed), and I’ve been told to expect a response back from the recruiter. If everything went well, I’ve been told the next step is visiting the office for an in-person interview.

All in all, it’s pretty exciting. After my last job, I really didn’t know what the future held but I think this could be a good situation. Now I just have to hope that I did well and spend as much time as possible with Candice considering whether this is a good move for us.

More updates as they arise, but feel free to comment if you have any thoughts on all of this.

My First Earthquake

Candice and I were up late last night (like usual). I was in the bedroom fiddling with the computer (I bought a new case and I’m trying to get everything out of the old case and into the new case) when the room started shaking. It felt like a train was running nearby or maybe the washer was running and off-balance. Candice came into the bedroom and asked what I was doing. I joked that I was jumping up-and-down and shaking the entire place, but then it all stopped. I didn’t think on it any further until checking my mail and spotting one from Bruce asking if I felt the earthquake. … My first earthquake. Whee!

Wii Sports

Michael Jordan had two of the most memorable games of his career while playing sick - one of which was a stomach flu. Kobe Bryant recently played a game while suffering from a flu and led his team to a victory. Others have also been so sick they could barely stand, but managed to get totally into the zone despite their illness. Adding to that sports pantheon of legend, Bob McCabe today played Wii Sports while sick, and scored age “21″ in a fitness test. Boo ya. :p
