I signed up for a social/recommendation site called BookArmy today. Here’s my profile page:

You mark off all the books you’ve read, are reading, and want to read, and it gets back to you with a list of books you might be interested in. I don’t know how good the recommendations are (right now, it’s telling me to read “My Lobotomy: A Memoir“), but I’ll probably keep using it for at least a few months to give it a chance.
Another social/recommendation site I use is last.fm. You sync it with your iPod or whatever so that the site can track all the music you listen to. It adds the bands to which you listen to your library and then builds some really good recommendation lists. I’ve spent hours listening to the last.fm radio based off of my library and coming across a lot of new bands in the process. Again, here’s another link:

Then there is livingsocial:

Unfortunately, the recommendations suck. “You like the Witcher? Oh, then you’ll love Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead 2! No? You don’t like those games? Well, try the Wii Nunchuk Controller!” But I stick with it because I like the ability to track my played games. If I could find a better site, I’d happily jump.
For movies, I started playing around with Flixster but haven’t gotten very far or been very committed to it. Maybe I’ll try to dump some data in there and see what happens:

On that note… is there anything I’m forgetting? What’s supposed to be good? Do you use anything or do you just stick to word-of-mouth and advertising from television and the ‘net — or maybe you don’t like new music, movies, books, and games?
